House Passes Legislation to Coordinate Medicaid Services for Children with Complex Conditions

Earlier this week, the House of Representatives passed the ACE Kids Act, legislation to coordinate Medicaid services for children with complex medical conditions, including children with cystic fibrosis, as part of a larger Medicaid package. The bill, sponsored by Reps. Joe Barton (R-TX) and Kathy Castor (R-FL), creates a state Medicaid option, with additional funding provided to states, for children with complex medical conditions through a health home model. Additionally, the bill ensures Medicaid coverage for these children and provider reimbursement when care is needed in a different state than their own.  The Senate bill, S. 428, sponsored by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Michael Bennet (D-CO), is expected to pass the Senate this week, as part of the Medicaid package known as the IMPROVE Act, H.R. 7217. The ATS joined a letter of support for the bill sent to both chambers of Congress in November urging passage of the bill.
